A Ride to Remember : Part 2

It's been a long time that I'd seen a firefly. What a mystical creature! I've always been mesmerized by their magical glowing powers. I remember during my childhood, I used to chase them and tried to get hold of them. It was my then, late-night thrill. Sometimes I used to spent hours following their trails thinking whom they are guiding through those starless skies.

"For a second we're blindspot."

We saw a pair of lights with relentless honk swiftly approaching us. On seeing the incoming danger, our driver cautiously pulled the car on the left with only 5 seconds to possible collision remaining.  If it was not for his alertness, we would have ended up in a brutal accident.

Why didn't you checked the car properly before leaving? One of us shouted.  "Sir, pehli baar aisa hua"(This happened for the first time), he replied. We're fury over him. But we knew this was not the right time to let our anger outrun the situation. One thing was sure we could not stay stranded for long.

"We need to get going."

By now everyone had switched flashlights on their phone. So, we decided to move slowly with their help. Two of us from each side held out our phones from the window pointing front and one in the back. It barely illuminated the road but, it was the best that we could have done.

It was quiteude and, everyone was focused. Each of us was watchfully observing the path and the surroundings. Any wrong decision could end up badly. The driver was accelerating more carefully. Every time we saw a light approaching us, we immediately pull over the car and wait for it to cross. We had hardly covered few kms when our driver tried to switch on the lights.

"Our engine fails again!"

We're rolling down the hill. To our consent, the driver kept steering. We didn't let the vehicle stop. Kinetic energy or gravity whatever it was, helping us to be on the move. But we knew we're screwed. Every attempt to restart the engine was failing. And, to make thing worse, our phone's battery wore dying fast.

"The fun ride ends."

We're out in the open. The drizzle was not our main concern anymore. Our driver was struggling hard to bring back the engines live. There was not a single shed or a living being present apart from us. We couldn't ask for help. Phone's network was down and so was our patience.

Everyone started giving suggestions. Let's walk to find help, but we had no idea how far we had to reach. Let's wait till morning, but it's highly dangerous. Let's take the lift, but the only trucks which passed by didn't stop.

"We pushed the car to start."

The age old formula of pushing a car to start hardly fails. A smile on everyone's face! Still, we had to figure out how to deal with the headlights issue. Our phones hardly had much juice left. We had to find help soon.

"Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies ― The Shawshank Redemption"

Have ever been in a situation when everything is haywire. But you are still hanging on to a silver lining. Let me tell you this never let it go. Never lose hope in any circumstances.

A car suddenly started following us. We saw the silhouette of a man wearing a hat. At first, we thought that maybe he is trying to mock us. But soon we realized the help he yielded. He was our firefly guiding us through our miseries. With extreme patience and reliability, he helped us to steer forward. In every turn, he made sure to keep his car aligned to ours. If it was not for him, we wouldn't have got out of our misfortunes that easily.

As soon as we reached the city, we wanted to thank him for his unprecedented help. But he left without accepting any acknowledgement. A selfless act, showcasing heroic deed, indeed.

"A ride which will be remembered long finally ends...."
