Tea Tales and Coffee Breaks
A gust of wind kissed my face and gave me a sensation of shivering. The weather was cold and the uncertain rhythmic variations in the wind making it a bit more. I checked my watch, it was 19:20 Hrs. It's been 20 minutes since I've been waiting for my friend at an open-air cafe near Malad.
The cafe which was optimally occupied with strangers with each having their own time. Some were indulged with their deep conversations, while some were being creative with their Instagram posts.
I took a sip from my pre-meeting coffee and felt the much-needed warmth. I looked around again to fascinate myself to see how everyone was content. They were all in discussions with each other in their full alertness. Every other person with a cup of a hot beverage in their hand was either fully concentrating on a debate or having one. There were waiters taking orders and refilling to those whose discussions require more time. The cash counter was busy shuffling order lists and currencies. Few people had already queued for their turn to grab a table.
Suddenly, I felt a tap over my right shoulder. It was him. We both shared the customary handshakes and hugs, how are you's? And fine's before we settled in. It's been a year since we've met.
Finally, we both announced.
That evening we both talked for almost an hour narrating the most interesting to the most embarrassing stories to each other. We started off with our office lives to our daily routines, to our recent crush and heartbreaks. With each sip, a new story would brew. We kept asking for another cup until we both thought it's enough for today. Examining to the current moment our memory searched on how during our college days, every Sunday our group use to hang out on a local tea stall. We use to walk approx 1.5 km from our flat just to have a feeling of togetherness over a cup of tea. It was our weekly routine.
Really from not liking the taste of caffeine to making it a conversation starter. I've adapted a great deal of both Indian and foreign culture.
In the end, we both parted our way by making a mandatory and unlikely to happen a trip to Goa.
P.S. - No, I'm not an addict of caffeine. But yes, when it comes to having a conversation or meeting I relish it over a cup of tea or coffee.
Fun Fact: Study shows caffeine is good for your body but only when taken in small quantity.
